Mentor Development Day

IMG_8783We recently ran a Mentor Development Day, hosted by our fantastic corporate partner Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The focus of the day was to enrich the mentor experience, which we achieved by inviting experts from outside Bridge Builders to address topics related to mentoring work. Existing Bridge Builders mentors and schools shared their experiences.

IMG_8789Feedback from attendees found that 91% felt that the day’s objective was achieved. The external speakers were very well received, and many mentors mentioned the panel discussions and sharing sessions as being particularly helpful. Bridge Builders is, of course, delighted with this feedback, and very grateful for the ideas and information that emerged from these sessions and indeed throughout the day, which we will reflect on and incorporate into our programme going forward.

We would like to say a special thank you to those who shared their expertise and experience with us:

Dame Janet Trotter DBE – Chair of the Bridge Builders Advisory Board

Jo Goldsmith – Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, SABP NHS Foundation Trust, who spoke on attachment issues

Leo Anniballi –  Senior Practitioner, Catch 22 Surrey Young People’s Substance Misuse Service, who spoke on the impact of drug and alcohol abuse on mentees

Bruno Lasserre –  Sainsbury’s; Jo Lynch – SABP NHS Foundation Trust; and Chris Sadler – Enterprise Rent-A-Car, who shared their mentoring experiences

Jane Gaffney –  Deputy Vice Principal, SWB Academy; and Mary Ellen McCarthy –  Executive Principal, Lumen Learning Trust, who shared their experiences as Bridge Builders schools

Mary Briggs – Principal Lecturer and Programme Lead for Early Years and Primary ITE, Oxford Brookes University, who conducted the Mentor Development Session.

Our mission

At Bridge Builders Mentoring, we believe that the gap between young men from poor socio-economic backgrounds and their full potential is never too large to overcome. Bridge Builders Mentoring Scheme provides young men the opportunity to gain additional support and guidance from adult mentors from professional backgrounds, who are experienced in life and work. Together, they can define, explore and overcome the problems that are so often associated with a low economic background.

The Bridge Builders Mentoring Scheme is a charity providing low cost services for young men. Any donations are greatly needed and appreciated. We rely on the support of our corporate sponsors and generous individuals to keep our work running and enable us to change the lives of young men throughout the UK.
